Susan Brown

Susan has recently retired from a 25 year career as an educator in the Winnipeg School Division.  She is a graduate of the University of Winnipeg with a BA (Hons) in Sociology.  She has served on church boards and school advisory councils in a variety of capacities, as well as participating in several Boys & Girls Clubs’ (Winnipeg) programs. She has completed her Safe Food Handlers Certification and a Poverty Advocacy training program.

Susan has been an advocate addressing the food security challenge in our city having founded the Charleswood Caring & Sharing Food Bank over 10 years ago as an associate of Harvest Manitoba.  She continues to serve as their co-ordinator in a volunteer capacity.  She has facilitated making a variety of wrap around services available to their clients as a part of the food bank operation. These have included hospitality time with light meals served, a drop in time with lunch and free activities, flu vaccine clinics, a ‘no cost’ store of clothing and household items, and a community garden and orchard.
